I read the article about you in Phoenix. I am also a Penn State alum--1964. I never got Crohns-colitis (they say I have a hybred of both) until about 10 years ago--I had my colon removed in August of 09. And I love music--currently I play with a recorder group. I was born and raised in central Pennsylvania and still go back relatively often because of family there. So you can see, I felt a great feeling of connection with your story even though I am 68 years old.

I really hope things go well for you as you experience these next states of your journey. Sending warm thoughts your way

Hi Lloyd! The instrument you are referring to is a mandolin. The strings are tuned in fifths - G-D-A-E. The reason there are 8 strings is because each tone is doubled, but they are the same note rather than in octaves like a 12 string guitar. I'm teaching myself to play it and right now can mostly do chords. The mandolin lead line played in No Guarantee was done by my friend Ryan, but someday I hope to be able to play well enough to be on recordings.

Hi Gina
I have had a urostomy for 5 years, and I read about you in the Phoenix magazine. I wish you the best for the future, and that your new procedures will be of great benifit to you. I have played guitar for over 60 years and I have a question for you. The guitar or whatever instrument you are playing on page 43 of the Phoenix magazine has 8 strings which is something I haven't seen before. Just curious. The best to you, and Merry Christmas

Regards,
Lloyd
PS I enjoyed your song on this website.

Hey Kenny -- So sorry for not replying to your comment for so long. My dad is actually building a solid state amp for this thing because the tube amp causes a lot of problems when I try to use it on stage. It hums when I plug the unit into a regular amp. There may be a way around this issue using different 1/4" cable but I'm not sure of that yet. It seems like to simple of a solution to actually work. I have to experiment a little more when I have time but I've been preoccupied with some other things. My dad is an engineer so he's been advising me throughout and when I get a chance I'll send you some photos before we take the old amp out.

Hi Gina!

You have a beautiful looking piano. I'm doing a restoration on a 120 and it appears that the designs are quite similar. I'm an amateur when it comes to working on these though and it would help me out so much if you could show a few more pictures of the wiring from the panel to the amp. Thanks! :)
